President Donald Trump is abandoning the leadership of the postwar order America created and has walked away from major international agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Paris Agreement, and the Iran nuclear deal. Dr. James M. Lindsay, senior vice president, director of studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg chair at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), will join us to discuss what it means for America to seek to beat rather than lead its friends and allies.
Dr. Lindsay has written widely on the American foreign policymaking process and the domestic politics of American foreign policy. His latest book, "The Empty Throne: America's Abdication of Global Leadership, " co-authored with Ivo H. Daalder, will be released in October 2018. Dr. Lindsay was director for global issues and multilateral affairs on the staff of the National Security Council during the Clinton administration. He has also served as a consultant to the United States Commission on National Security/21st Century (Hart-Rudman Commission) and as a staff expert for the United States Institute of Peace's congressionally mandated Task Force on the United Nations.
