Algebraic Thinking Math Workshop (SF)
Building on the success and overwhelming interest generated by the spring math meetings last year, the CATDC is excited to offer a one-day workshop in Algebraic Thinking. This workshop will focus on several threads that emerged from those meetings, which include teaching Algebra in the Middle School years, building the bridge between middle and high school math learning, and exploring how our curricula can support student understanding of and fluency with algebraic concepts.
The goals of this workshop focus on exploring the gap between students ‘doing’ algebra and students ‘thinking algebraically’. An algebraic mindset - and the problem solving skills associated with algebraic thinking- transcend the algebra one curriculum; the  foundational skills are ones students will turn to throughout their math journey, be it high school or college. Through a collaborative process, participants will leave this workshop with tangible, concrete activities and curricular insights they can build upon in their classrooms and school programs.
