Ajanta in Berkeley to Celebrate Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights

Ajanta in Berkeley will be celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, on Sunday, October 30 and Monday, October 31, by offering a special $42.00 prix fixe lunch and dinner menu that will include paired wine by the glass. A vegetarian version of the menu will be available for $39.00 and all guests will be served complimentary “mithai” which are traditional Indian sweets frequently consumed in India during Diwali days. The restaurant will be decorated with balloons, glitter and extra candles on each table.

The special menu (see below) will include three appetizers, four main dishes, five sides, a choice of a dessert and four 3-ounce pours of premium wine - one red, two whites and a dessert wine.

Reservations are recommended as seating is limited and can be made by calling (510) 526-4373.

In the most recent Zagat Survey, Ajanta received a 4.6 rating for food (out of 5) making it the highest rated Indian restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area. In Berkeley, it is tied for second place (just behind Chez Panisse) and in Oakland/Berkeley, the restaurant is tied for fourth place.

Appetizers: Tandoori Scallops, Tandoori Chicken Chaat, Chicken Samosa and Papadams
Main Dishes: Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rib Chops, Seyal Machi and Badal Jaam
Accompaniments: Basmati rice, naan, mango chutney, carrot pickles and hot pickles
Desserts: Choice of Kulfi, Cardamom Gelato, Mango Sorbet or Gulab Jamun
