After Hours: Poetry and the Natural World

In this third installment of the Poetry Society of America's (PSA) national series, which travels to five cities, local resident Jane Hirshfield and former United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky (1997-2000) will share poems that are in conversation with, or are inspired by, nature. A conversation moderated by Alice Quinn, PSA's Executive Director, will follow the readings.

Jane Hirshfield's eighth poetry book, The Beauty, was long-listed for the National Book Award. Ten Windows: How Great Poems Transform the World, received the Northern CA Book Award. Previous honors include fellowships from Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations, the Academy of American Poets, and the NEA. She is currently serving as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Hirshfield has taught at Stanford and UC Berkeley.

Robert Pinsky (At the Foundling Hospital, 2016) founded the Favorite Poem Project. His The Inferno of Dante translation won the LA Times Book Award in Poetry and Harold Morton Landon translation prize. Other awards: Lenore Marshall Prize, Korean Manhae Prize, Italian Premio Capri, and Pen American Center Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor at Boston University.

For adults and high school students only. No one younger will be admitted. This event is free and open to the public.
