This Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) is required by the State Department for all students and their parent(s). The goal of the PDO is to help you start preparing for your cultural experience and set goals for what you want. You will be joined by other local AFS students who are also preparing to go abroad.
This orientation is preparatory and not country specific. We will be covering topics such as: AFS and You; Personal Safety and Well-Being; Cultural Adjustment and Coping; Culture Learning; and Personal Goals and Expectations. You will also get to meet local AFS returnees who have a lot of insight about things like countries money, cellphone, schools, etc.
Please arrive on time. We will be starting promptly at 9:30am, so please make sure to give yourself enough time to find parking and check in. Parking can be a bit of a pain in SF. Lunch will be provided. We try our best to provide vegetarian options, but if you have any food allergies or further dietary restrictions, we ask that you please bring some supplementary lunch.
Please RSVP for parents and students separately using the designated Parent and Applicant Tickets. This helps us keep track of how many students/family members will be attending.
