Please join The Integration Cirle and Joe Tafur, MD, for a lecture and celebration of his new book The Fellowship of the River:
A Medical Doctor's Exploration into Amazonian Medicine.
For the last decade, family physician Dr. Joe Tafur has been exploring the role of spiritual healing in modern healthcare.
After his research fellowship at University of California, San Diego, Tafur lived and worked in the Peruvian Amazon at the traditional healing center Nihue Rao Centro Espiritual for six years working closely with master Shipibo shaman Ricardo Amaringo. During those years at Nihue Rao, he assisted hundreds of individuals as a doctor and a shaman as they went through traditional healing with Amazonian plant medicines and ayahuasca ceremony.
In his years at Nihue Rao, Tafur collected a number of integrative case studies from which he developed his theories for bridging modern medical understanding and the profound world of shamanic healing, including how shamanic approaches can be used to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, migraine headaches, Crohn's disease and addiction.
Woven into the stories of his Amazonian adventures, Tafur has summarized these theories in his thought provoking book The Fellowship of the River: A Medical Doctor's Exploration into Traditional Amazonian Plant Medicine.
This exciting work explores Dr. Tafur’s extensive experience with ayahuasca and Amazonian plant medicine.
Dr. Tafur continues to work in both allopathic and shamanic medicine and is focused on connecting the worlds of academic medicine and spiritual healing.
“This is the medicine of the future, the big answer to what ails us in the West. For millennia the doctor and the medicine man were one and the same person. Dr. Tafur takes us into the heart of the Amazon and shows us how spirit can heal the body, how love can repair the soul, and how awakening to our higher purpose and mission in life can one the doors to health and long life. Brilliant!â€
