February can evoke feelings of romance and belonging, as well as disconnection and indifference. Often these feelings are linked to external objects: a person, an event, an occurrence. In this class we will begin the investigation into deepening our understanding, connection and empathy towards our own being. Guided meditation, somatic movement and circle-sharing are just some of the modalities that will be gently interwoven to form a supportive container as we take ourselves on a very unique date - with ourselves.
Davis Q. Nguyen was born in Hayward and raised in San Francisco, where he now practices as a mindfulness meditation and trauma resiliency mentor. He ordained as a monk with Zen Master, Peace Activist & Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Thich Nhat Hanh at the age of 21, spending the next 10 years immersing himself fully in the study, practice and application of mindfulness. He has helped facilitate and teach mindfulness trainings in diverse spaces all over the world, including the Vatican, San Quentin State Prison and the World Bank. In 2016, Davis received Lamp Transmission from Thich Nhat Hanh, officially recognizing him as a senior teacher of the Plum Village Zen lineage. Davis has led retreats for educators, government employees, veterans, LGBTQIA community, business leaders, families, children & teens. He believes that spiritual practice is not separate from our day to day activities and has a deep passion for healing & integrating trauma and heartfelt presence.
Meditators of all levels welcome - no experience necessary.
