99 poems for the 99 percent

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Readers include Dean Rader, Sally Ashton and Dennis Richardson.

About the project, 99 poems in 99 days, the editor of the anthology, Dean Rader, says, “Since Walt Whitman, American poetry has been about democracy. It's been about reaching people on issues they care about in a voice they recognize.” The original project posted 99 original poems over 99 days by major American poets, mid-career writers, students, and ordinary Americans. It attempted to provide a plurality of voices, approaches, and visions.

Dean Rader’s debut collection of poems, Works and Days, won the T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize. His most recent collection of poems, Landscape Portrait Figure Form (Omnidawn Chapbook Series, 2014) was named one of the best books of the year by the Barnes & Noble Review. Rader publishes widely in the fields of poetry, American Indian studies, and popular culture, and he reviews regularly for The Huffington Post, The Rumpus, and The San Francisco Chronicle. He is chair of the English department at the University of San Francisco.
Sally Ashton is the editor-in-chief of DMQ Review (www.dmqreview.com), a journal of art and poetry. She is the author of three poetry collections: These Metallic Days, Her Name Is Juanita, and most recently Some Odd Afternoon (BlazeVOX, 2010). Honors include a fellowship from Arts Council Silicon Valley, a residency at Montalvo Arts Center, and several Pushcart nominations. She served as Poet Laureate of Santa Clara County 2011-2013. Ashton has taught in the Disquiet: International Literature Program in Lisbon, Portugal and teaches at San Jose State University. Follow her at her blog, poetryonastick.blogspot.com.
Dennis Richardson, along with his wife, Christine, coordinates the popular Willow Glen poetry series at the Willow Glen Library in San Jose, CA. They also edit the series’ blog, willowglenpoetry.com.

Admission free, a donation of $3 or whatever is affordable is suggested. This event is supported, in part, by funding from Arts Council Santa Cruz County.
