recruiting and managing volunteers
engaging community partners
project-based learning
creating innovative programs.
Special presentations will help you develop your research and evaluation strategies over time, and help you build your Board of Directors.
Here are some of the people you will learn from:
Laura Brief, CEO of 826 National
Prior to 826 National, Laura held leadership positions at high achieving youth organizations including Build, First Graduate, Juma Ventures, and The Posse Foundation, where she developed the organization’s first national career, corporate engagement, and alumni programs. She holds a Master’s in Education and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, and is the Chair of the Board of Directors at Youth Speaks.
Maggie Andrews, Director of Development at 826 National
With more than a decade of fundraising experience, Maggie's work with youth-focused arts organizations has taken her to Baltimore, Boston, and since 2009, the Bay Area. Before her current position with 826 National, Maggie served as the Managing Director, Individual Giving at Teach For America and Development Director for Stanford Jazz Workshop. While working at NPR's From the Top, Maggie acquired her MS in Arts Administration at Boston University, and she has a BA in English from Dickinson College.
Anton Tims, Director of Volunteer Engagement at 826 Valencia
Anton has supported volunteer programs in youth development, education, housing, and for people with functional needs. Prior to working at 826, he was the director for a HandsOn Network affiliate. Anton has led several national capacity-building programs designed to deepen civic engagement, and is passionate about working at the intersection of volunteers, businesses, and our students. He earned a degree from Marquette University in Spanish Language for the Professions and Human Resources.
Kait Steele, Director of Field Operations at 826 National
A founding member of 826CHI, Kait played a key role in program/curriculum development, serving as the organization’s first Programs Coordinator and later as its Director of Education. Prior to joining 826, Kait taught creative writing in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. She holds a B.A. in English/Creative Writing from Northwestern University.
