7th Annual Y for Youth Luncheon

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The inspiring 7th Annual Y for Youth Luncheon on Friday, March 9 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will feature remarks by U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris, along with hundreds of Bay Area corporate, community and philanthropic leaders joining to celebrate YMCA youth who have succeeded in the face of adversity and are making an impact in their communities.

Young people and youth movements are powerful catalysts for change. They have led critical efforts throughout history to advance social inclusion and eliminate discrimination and injustice. This year’s Y for Youth Luncheon will be one to lift up local young leaders who are creating positive solutions to build a better world.

Longtime youth advocate U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris will be the featured speaker at the event. As District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California and now, as United States Senator, Harris has been a passionate advocate for increasing graduation rates among San Francisco’s most vulnerable youth and for offering education alternatives for underserved youth. As District Attorney, Harris supported the launch of the Bayview Hunters’ Point YMCA’s Center for Academic Re-Entry and Empowerment (CARE) Program and the Five Keys Charter School, which continue to help truant youth re-engage with their high school education by creating an alternative map that guides them to successfully graduate.

Since 2012, the annual luncheon has raised more than $3 million to support the YMCA of San Francisco’s programs serving more than 10,000 youth each day. These funds have deepened the impact of the Y’s youth programs throughout San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties.

“I am so inspired by our youth and the positive impact that they have on our community,” said Chuck Collins, President and CEO of the YMCA of San Francisco. “Join us in celebrating the essential role that the Y of San Francisco plays in youth reaching their full potential and strengthening our neighborhoods.”

Y for Youth Luncheon guests will hear stories from KC Agramon, Johnal Stiger and London Stiger – three close friends and high school students who have completed the Mayor’s Youth Employment & Education Program (MYEEP) at the Buchanan YMCA. There, they found safety, mentoring and opportunity. They are now better prepared to enter the workforce and succeed in school. And, these future leaders of San Francisco are already sharing their experience and leadership with other young people as Counselors-In-Training at the Buchanan YMCA.

Individual tickets for the Y for Youth Luncheon start at $500 while sponsorships run $5,000 to $100,000 and are available online at ymcasf.org/y-youth, or by calling 415 281 6780.

The Y for Youth Luncheon is proudly presented by Alaska Airlines.
