The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art will offer its innovative and interactive fundraiser, Art by the Inch, for the 6th year in a row on Saturday, December 7 from 5-8pm. The event features a 100-foot mural painted by Artist Members of the organization: guests compose their own paintings by choosing and purchasing sections of their choice at just $1 per square inch.
The spirit of collaboration makes this fundraiser a special one. The mural spans the main gallery at MarinMOCA, with dynamic transitions connecting each section of the piece. The result is a striking panorama that showcases the incredible talents of bay area artists. We are especially excited this year to include guest artists The Great Tortilla Conspiracy, celebrated cultural icons of the San Francisco Mission District and tireless community advocates. Distinguished artist and founder of Art by the Inch, Berryl Miller, says that year after year, “It turns out to be the first piece of art that someone buys, because they get involved in it. It makes people feel like they can actually afford to buy a piece of original art. From abstract to graphic to plein air to figurative, there’s something for everybody.”
The event also includes a raffle and silent auction of items donated by Marin, Sonoma, and Napa businesses. This year, support for the event is stronger than ever. Donated items include a private tour of Heslip Family Winery, tickets to Disneyland, two-night retreats at Cedar Rock Ranch and Mt. Vision, tickets to the San Francisco Opera and City Arts and Lectures, lunch at Chez Panisse, and gift certificates from local businesses such as TOAST restaurant, Riley Street Art Supply, and more! The Novato Fire Department has also donated a ride to school on a fire truck! Bring the entire family for a fun evening to support the arts.
Stop by for a preview from 12/05-12/06 (11am-4pm), and attend the opening reception on Saturday, December 7, to purchase the artwork of your choice! Find the perfect artwork for your home or as a gift for a friend. All proceeds support MarinMOCA exhibitions, events, and programs.
