The Black Food & Wine Experience is a mission-driven event created to bridge food, beverage, education, health, and Black culture. Founded by Chef Mimi, a classically trained chef who has dedicated more than a decade to the often-overlooked intersection of food, social justice and
entertainment, the mission of the Black Food & Wine Experience is to provide a space where
hospitality and Black excellence are cultivated, celebrated, and explored by all.
The multi-day program features keynotes and panel discussions to address topics that affect Black professionals within the hospitality industry with a focus on post-pandemic recovery. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a range of food and beverages that span the
African Diaspora, meet industry veterans as well as up-and-coming Black chefs, winemakers and spirit makers, learn about the latest trends, and network among their fellow foodies and Black professionals.
Below are a few key events happening during The Black Food & Wine Experience. Please visit the website for the full schedule of events:
June 11 - Black & Asian Solidarity Dinner (Sobre Mesa)
Top Chef alums Chefs Nelson German and Tu David Phu will take you into a culinary coma with a seven-course Pan-African and Vietnamese fusion dinner (offered in two seatings) paired with hand-crafted cocktails provided by Patrón. The Afro-Asian dinner will center conversations to
bridge the intersectionality around Black pride and "No Asian Hate."
June 16 - Food & Beverage Industry Summit (Oakstop on Broadway)
Join The Black Food & Wine Experience for its inaugural industry summit aimed at supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) Food & Beverage entrepreneurs to create the next generation of hospitality leaders through professional development. The industry educational event will feature keynote presentations and panel discussions to address topics ranging from building customer service, access to funding, and opportunities for
recruitment. This year's theme is the resurrection of Black Wall Street post-Covid. Who comes back? What are available resources and opportunities? Who has access? How do we build moving forward?
June 18 - The Grand Tasting (The Hive)
Sample the food, wine and cocktails of the African Diaspora at The Black Food & Wine Experience's Grand Tasting in the heart of Oakland. Celebrate Black culture and excellence with your fellow foodies while tasting from celebrated and rising chefs and restaurants, winemakers and spirit purveyors at the Hive. mention live entertainment and activations.
