Poetry reading in San Francisco Chinatown

John Curl is the author of twelve poetry collections, including his new book, Rainbow Weather: Poems for Environmental Healing (Vagabond). His translations of ancient Inca, Maya, and Aztec poets are collected in Ancient American Poets (Bilingual Press). Author of two novels, a memoir of the 1960s, and a history of cooperation (For All The People), he co-founded Indigenous Peoples Day and published a history of how it replaced Columbus Day. At the World Poetry Festival (Venezuela 2010), he read with Nobel laureate Derek Walcott. He is a member of the Revolutionary Poets Brigade and co-edited many anthologies with former San Francisco Poet Laureate, Jack Hirschman.

Mahnaz Badihian is a poet, painter, and translator whose work has been published in several languages, including her native language, Farsi. Her latest book of poetry, Ask the Wind, was published in 2022. She has also published an anthology of COVID-19 poems and art and is working on a novel entitled Gohar. She is a member of Revolutionary Poets Brigade, a consulting member of the World Festival of Poetry. Mahnaz has Masters degrees in Poetry and Sociology and is a dental surgeon and nurse. She was also one of three finalists considered during the last voting for San Francisco Poet Laureate.
