Join the JFCS young professional community on July 24th, 6:00 pm at the historic Castro Theater for the Second Annual SF Jewish Film Festival screening of The Waldheim Waltz followed by a Question and Answer with Director Ruth Beckermann and a private recpetion of drinks, appetizers, and discussions.
The Film:
Dauntingly displaying ties to today’s political climate, "The Waldheim Waltz presents a film about truth and lies or 'alternative facts'. About individual and collective consciousness. The film shows the tangled web that former UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim became ensnared in by concealing two years of his wartime biography."
Directed by Ruth Beckermann, born in Vienna in the 1950’s, was part of the activism in the 1980’s during Waldheim's campaign. In a statement, she remarked, "When I looked at the material I shot 30 years ago, I was shocked. Had I really forgotten how easily emotions can be stirred up against others and used by populist politicians?"
Immediately following the film we'll head upstairs at the Castro for a private reception. We'll have film discussions, drinks, and light appetizers. Connect with other like-minded individuals who also participate in JFCS's groups for young professionals including Volunteers in Community Connections, participants in the New Leaders Council, 3gSF (grandchildren of survivors), and RJen members.
(You are welcome to join us for the happy hour only, beginning at 8:15pm)
Film and Ticket Purchasing Information:
We will be purchasing discounted tickets for our group. All Festival passes are $35 and single film tickets are $13. When you register, you will be asked to purchase one option.
