This biennial festival brings together spectacle, daring athleticism, aerial dance, and circus to create a dynamic multi-day performance event. Hosted at the historic Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, the 2024 festival will feature two evenings of showcase performances, a youth matinee, and a site-specific installation by Flyaway Productions designed for the fire escapes at the Fort Mason Center. Additional performances by dawsondancesf / Gregory Dawson, Aeriosa Dance Society, Corporeal Imago, Zaccho Dance Theatre featuring aerialist Veronica Blair with choreography by Joanna Haigood, Kelsey na Gealai, Shannon Gray, Thai Lam, Megan Lowe & Roel Seeber, Sam Wilder, Joey The Tiger, Nina Sawant with David Freitag & Andrew Castle, Alice Sheppard / Kinetic Light, Cirque Vida / Xochilti Sosa, Jason Span, Ross Travis, and Helen Wicks & Saharla Vetsch.
The Youth Showcase on Saturday, August 17 at 1pm will feature brilliant young aerialists from the Circus Center's San Francisco Youth Circus, Kinetic Arts Center's Circus Spire, Prince Dance, Ashland Aerial Arts, Zaccho Youth Company, and BANDALOOP Youth.
New in 2024, the San Francisco Aerial Arts Film Festival will showcase a curated selection of films that capture the grace, strength, and imagination of the aerial arts, pushing the boundaries of what's possible. The film festival will screen parallel to the live performances at Fort Mason.
"The San Francisco Bay Area is home to some of the most important pioneers in aerial dance and award winning circus aerial artists," explains Joanna Haigood, Zaccho Dance Theatre Artistic Director.
