North Beach Neighbors Launch Weekly Pop-Up Park, Sundays in the PARKing Lot

To ease the burden created by the closure of Washington Square Park’s main lawn, closed until early 2020, North Beach Neighbors launched a new weekly pop-up park – Sundays in the PARKing lot. The new pop-up park, which opened earlier this month for people to connect and enjoy the area, is located at 699 Columbus in the same parking lot as the North Beach Farmer’s Market. This space became available after a suggestion by Dario Hadjian, owner of Piazza Pellegrini.

Each Sunday, the parking lot is transformed into a mini pop-up park and activity space complete with an astroturf surface, temporary fencing, and dedicated seating. Specific programming is announced weekly via the park’s Facebook page.

Yoga is offered at least once per month, and each week provides at least one arts and craft opportunity. Recent events include a pop-up dog park and a selection of yard games. The next event scheduled is a Salvaged Planter & Terrarium Workshop hosted by Cole Hardware on July 28th, followed by a free live jazz concert beginning at 1pm on August 4th.
