The Mission Gets a New Latin American Cocktail Bar

2019 is shaping up to be quite a year for specialty bars. After Obispo and Mosto, specializing in rum and agave spirits respectively, now comes Elda; a bright, beautiful destination in the Mission. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the team behind it will make you smile; drink aficionados Alvaro Rojas (True Laurel, El Techo), Eric Ochoa (ABV, Bar Agricole, Trou Normand) and Jay De Natale. The interiors are designed by Hanna Collins (the owner of design firm ROY) and musician Brijean Murphy, of Toro y Moi fame, contributed a colorful mural outside.

“It’s basically focused on spirits of the Americas, specifically mezcal, Tequila and rum, which are near and dear to my heart,” Ochoa said. “It’s a lot of cultural things that resonate with me.”

On the menu, you’ll find cocktails like Presidente #44 and Pink Flamingo, prepared with pineapple, absinthe and rum, and food inspired by Caribbean and Latin American bar bites (think spicy corn skewers, beef patties and crustless chicken sandwiches). As June gloom slowly moves away to reveal blue skies, here’s another summery spot to put on your radar.
