The Clear the Air Film Fest showcases student-produced short films that address topics on air quality, environmental health and lung health in the community, with a goal of encouraging young people to use film as a medium to interpret and change the world around them.
This year Breathe California will award $3,700 in prizes to filmmakers: $1,000 to the winners of the Short Film contest in both the High School and Middle School categories; $600 to the winners in the Youth PSA category (8th grade or below); and $600 to the winners in the High School PSA category. A filmmaker age 18 years or older who serves as an inspiration to young filmmakers will receive $500 in in the General Public Short Film category.
Each short film and PSA will address one of the following topics:
Air Quality – “Spare The Air” Sponsored by Bay Area Air Quality Management DistrictHow does pollution impact the quality of the air we breathe? What can we do to minimize our impact on the environment and reduce the health risks posed by pollution and climate change? How can environmental triggers exacerbate asthma or other forms of lung disease?
Tobacco Prevention – “Be The First” Sponsored by CVS HealthWhat would it be like if your generation was the first to be tobacco-free? How can smoke-free policies help improve the health of your entire community? How can limiting smoking and tobacco use improve the lives of your friends, classmates, family, and neighbors?
Now in its eighth year, Clear the Air Film Fest continues to grow, and we invite your support to help us amplify youth and community voices through film and attendance.
