The GWHS Alumni Association is pleased to present the 2019 Alumni Awards Banquet, featuring 3 Hall of Merit inductions and a special Annabelle Marsh Piercy Lifetime Service Award. It's going to be a great evening you won't want to miss! All inductees/awardees are scheduled to attend. Master of Ceremonies Alumni President John Rothmann. Doors open at 6pm, dinner service 7pm.
The Hall of Merit inductees are:
- Bob Buckter S‘64, better known as “Dr. Color” who has literally changed the face of S.F. with over 22,000 completed exterior color designs for Victorian and Edwardian homes since the early 1970s and had his work featured in the 1978 book Painted Ladies; his innovative color schemes increased the level of appreciation and preservation of these unique and irreplaceable buildings, and he has expanded his consultation to mid-century and modern homes as well as commercial and industrial buildings,
- Richard Lonergan S‘60, whose work at Visa impacts everyone's lives daily; he oversaw a massive 3-year software upgrade initiative to enable Visa to handle a much larger daily transaction volume, as well as directing and negotiating the development of automated clearing house (you may have seen the ACH acronym when paying a bill online), leading the effort to create a secure Internet standard to allay consumer concerns about online credit card use, and several other major initiatives; he retired from Visa as their Executive Vice President, and
- Al Young F’63, the first Asian-American race car driver, has won four AHRA titles including World Champion and World Finals Champion; he also won three NHRA division titles and was three times the West Coast Bracket National Champion, all in his 1970 Dodge Challenger, which is now on permanent exhibit at Seattle's Museum of History and Industry; his 1973 Plymouth Roadrunner won awards at the world's largest classic car show in Västerås, Sweden; he was also a 37-year high school teacher and helped found Seattle's first alternative school, which landed him the 2004 Heroes in the Classroom Award.
The Annabelle recipient is:
- Lula Tamaras Ossipoff F’53, who chaired 11 milestone reunions and three birthday picnics, and conducted several fundraisers within her class to present a trophy case to GWHS which now holds the Principal's Cups as well as contributions to multiple Alumni Funds.
