Pop-Up Magazine Winter Tour Comes to The Paramount Theatre

The traveling show, Pop-Up Magazine has announced the dates for its next tour. If you don’t know about their shows, quick review… Pop-Up Magazine is a live show that combines different types of storytelling. The creators keep most of the show a secret, so the live audience has no idea what to expect.

Amazingly enough, their shows aren’t recorded. So, after it’s over, it can’t be found anywhere else.

Storytellers are accompanied by the band Magik*Magik Orchestra. In the past stories have been accompanied by live sketching, tasty cookies, and scents.

Contributors to the 2019 Winter Issue include musician Will Butler (Arcade Fire); writers Jason Concepcion (The Ringer), Josie Duffy Rice (The New York Times, Slate, Ebony), Ed Yong (The Atlantic; New York Times–bestselling We Contain Multitudes), Laurel Braitman (New York Times–bestselling Animal Madness; The New York Times), Francesca Mari (The California Sunday Magazine, Texas Monthly), Jenée Desmond-Harris (The New York Times Op-Ed), and Rowan Jacobsen (A Geography of Oysters); filmmakers Sam Green (A Thousand Thoughts, The Weather Underground), Jason Hanasik (The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, SFFILM’s FilmHouse), Sophia Nahli Allison (Sundance Institute New Frontier Lab); and audio producers James T. Green (The Outline, Gimlet Media’s The Nod), Stephanie Foo (This American Life), Sam Harnett (KQED), and Audrey McGlinchy (KUT).

The 2019 Winter Issue will change the way we think about memory; explore a unique dating scene in the middle of nowhere; pay homage to one of the fathers of the electric guitar; examine the aftermath of an infamous, viral moment in Olympics history; bring back to life a 500-year-old, lost genre of music; and much, much more.
