SF Symphony Summer Series Announced, Including Star Wars Trilogy Performances
The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) announces its annual Summer with the Symphony series, which runs July 3–August 3 at Davies Symphony Hall and at other outdoor locations throughout the Bay Area.
The highlight from this year’s schedule is George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy, with the Orchestra performing John Williams’ legendary scores live to picture while the films are projected onto a large screen hung above the Davies Symphony Hall stage. Tickets for all Star Wars concerts are available now.
SFS’s Summer with the Symphony series includes an array of family-friendly and classical programs, which kicks off on July 3 with “A Salute to Gershwin.” The following day is the annual Fourth of July concert and fireworks spectacular at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, followed by The Little Mermaid score live to picture showing, July 6–8. Tickets for the Fourth of July Celebration will go on sale on May 18 at 10am.
Additional performances include the family-friendly concert presentation of José Hernández leading his world-famous ensemble Mariachi Sol de México in a festive tribute to Mexico’s heritage and rich music (note: the SFS does not appear in this performance), the classical concerts on July 13–14 featuring Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s monumental Violin Concerto, as well as the July 22 will be the annual free concert the 81st Stern Grove Festival.
All concerts are at Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, unless otherwise noted. Tickets for the San Francisco Symphony’s Summer with the Symphony concerts start at $15 and go on sale beginning today.
