2018 Summer SAILstice

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Summer SAILstice is a world-wide event held simultaneously in cities throughout the U.S. and in other countries in the northern hemisphere where sailing and other forms of boating such as stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking are popular forms of recreation.

The event is held in conjunction with City of Alameda's designation of June as Water Sports Month. The City proclamation, signed by Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer, states, "The City of Alameda and its surrounding waters are renowned as a location for water sports and Alameda is one of the premier Bay Area boating centers."

One of the event's most popular attractions are the free boat rides offered throughout the day. Conducted within the Alameda estuary, the boats are skippered by experienced sailors and provide a hands-on sailing experience for all.

In addition to exhibits and free boat rides, highlights include a rescue demonstration by the U.S. Coast Guard; an amateur cardboard boat building contest culminating in a race, and tours of the Maritime Museum tall-ship, the ALMA.

There will also be a presentation in the EYC Regatta Room at 3:00 p.m. about the new, Bay-Area tall-ship, the MATTHEW TURNER, berthed in Sausalito.

Attendees will enjoy a day of bright sunshine, live music, food and beverages on the Encinal Yacht Club's lawn with the estuary as a backdrop.
