Anchor Steam Beer Sold to Sapporo, Plans for Expansion

The iconic San Francisco beer company announced today that it has been acquired by Sapporo Holding Limited, the best-selling Asian Beer in the United States.

>”Anchor Steam Beer is a San Francisco original, inspiring a new generation of brewers and beer lovers around the world,” said Masaki Oga, President of Sapporo Holdings LTD. “Both companies share a brewing philosophy backed by long histories and this transaction enables both Sapporo Group’s US business and Anchor Brewing Company’s global business to make a further leap forward.”

According to Keith Greggor, Anchor Brewing Co-Owner, the current management team will continue to run the company but use the significant resources provided by the acquisition for “expanding to new markets worldwide.”.

The news comes just before the annual “Drink Steam Week”, where America’s first craft beer puts on a series of events around the US to celebrate the history of the Brewery’s significant impact on the craft beer revolution. Many events include a food theme including a Humphry Slocombe beer float party at Kilowatt in the Mission and tater tots covered in Anchor Steam Beer cheese and Anchor Steam braised brisket at Tank House BBQ & Bar in Sacramento.
