2017 Webby Awards: San Francisco Bay Area Winners

The Webby Awards are known for honoring the “Best of the Internet,” a title so broad it’s almost comical. But this award is no joke and has been deemed “the Internet’s Highest Honor” by the New York Times and had received a record-setting 3.5 million “Webby’s People’s Voice” votes.  Today the winners were revealed and the Internet seems even more abuzz than usual.

Among the likes of Apple, Lady Gaga, Pokémon GO, Solange, Gillian Anderson & the Women’s March on Washington, were quite a few San Francisco Bay Area names honored with this prestigious award. Here is the list, compiled by the good people over at The Webby Awards.

  • Airbnb won two Webby Awards for Airbnb’s National Parks Backyards for Best Use of Video (Social) and Events & Live Webcasts (Film & Video) and the Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Travel App for the New Airbnb App (Mobile Sites & Apps)
  • Pokemon GO (Niantic, Inc.) won the Webby Award for Best Game and two Webby Awards and two Webby People’s Voice Awards for Best Use of GPS or Location Technology and Best Experiential & Innovation (Mobile Sites & Apps)
  • The Lady Gaga + Intel Performance won the Webby Award for Live Experiences (Branded) in the Film & Video category and two Webby People’s Voice Awards for Integrated Campaigns (Branded) in the Film & Video category and Branded Content (Individuals) in the Advertising, Media & PR category
  • Square won the Webby Award for Long Form (Branded) and the Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Documentary (Branded) in the Film & Video category
  • OMGYES.com won the Webby Award for Weird Website
  • Khan Academy won the Webby Award and the Webby People’s Voice Award for Khan Academy: You Can Learn Anything for Education & Reference in the Mobile Sites & Apps category
  • IFTTT won the Webby Award for Best Productive App in the Mobile Sites & Apps category

Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webby’s is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)—a 2000+ member judging body. Among the judges are leading web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities.
