I hope you'll march with me in this year's San Francisco Pride Parade on June 25!San Francisco’s Pride Parade has always been close to my heart, and symbolizes so much more than a simple march down Market Street. Pride represents how far we have come, and also how far we have to go. For the 45th San Francisco Gay Pride Parade, we must gather our strength for the battle ahead. In these trying times, it can sometimes feel as if we are slowly slipping backwards, but that does not mean we should weaken our resolve. With the rise of Donald Trump and Mike Pence, we have all more reason to rise to the struggle that is presented before us. Again, we face an attack on our human rights and civil liberties, but we do not give in. Within Chechnya, the LGBTQ community faces a cruel and appalling attack. The gay community is faced with concentration camps, torture, and pogroms in 2017. We must keep fighting. We have come so far, but still have progress to make.
It is vital we send a message to all the people around the world who wish to silence our voices. We must show them that we were kept silent for far too long, and we will never return to the closet. Although there is much to do, let us take pride in all that we have achieved as a community and a City. On June 25th, we march together. Join my contingent, and make a stand for our human rights; let our voices be heard. If you are interested in marching, please RSVP here and email Victor Ruiz-Cornejo, with any questions you may have. As a special thank you, everyone will receive a free and first edition “Senator Scott Wiener” tank top!
