San Francisco’s Best Parties This Weekend

From booty bass by Big Freedia at Mezzanine to Mad Decent’s free trap party at 1015 Folsom and the more melodic sounds of Bonobo, the weekend is packed with dance parties before the big Halloween weekend parties arrive next week.

Visit SF Station events calendar for complete listings.

Thursday, October 23: Freedia at Mezzanine
New Orleans “Queen of Bounce” Big Freedia brings her high-energy booty music back to San Francisco. Freedia has become a welcomed regular in San Francisco, with recent stops at Public Works and Outside Lands where beignets were literally flying during her show at a special “brunch” performance. Twerk right into the weekend with this one.

Friday: October 24: Mad Decent at 1015 Folsom
Diplo’s Mad Decent record label is kicking off the Halloween festivities early with a free party featuring trap DJ duo Gents and Jawns, LA based acid-booty DJ Valentino Khan, twerk enabler Swizzymack and DJ Madeaux, known for remixing Beyonce’s “Flawless” track into a trap hit. SF’s own DJ Napsty starts night.

Friday: October 24: Bonobo at The Regency Ballroom
Bonobo brings melodic, tech-house beats to the Regency this weekend. Bonobo’s 2013 breakout album The North Borders gained international attention with a sound that blends live instrumentation and electronic bass and drum sounds. The buzz continues to push the producer into bigger venues with each visit to San Francisco.

Saturday, October 25: Guy Gerber at Mighty
Drawing inspiration from Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine, Guy Gerber brings emotional, trippy shoe-gaze electronic beats to Mighty. An Isreali-born DJ, he became popular in the European club circuit, including this summer’s Boiler Room broadcast in Ibiza. He also just released a collaboration album with Puff Daddy entitled, “11 11.” Keeping the trippy progressive house vibes going, Guy Gerber will be accompanied by Atish + Slee, Dem Suckaz and other local tech-house DJs.

Saturday, October 25: Moodyman at Public Works
Moodymann offers a hybrid form of techno/house dance music with an innovative ear for reworked riffs, samples and grooves. Starting in the late 90s as a house resident DJ at the Detroit based Outcast Motorcycle Club, he has cultivated his style with a soulful and jazzy aesthetic. Moodyman will headline with funky and nu-disco DJs such as Solar ( Sunset Sound System) and Anthony Mansfield (Disco Knights).
