San Francisco’s Best Parties This Weekend

Somehow it’s October. Before you know it, it’ll be 2am and the bar’s closing. Amid the ambient, African and Amsterdam sounds, the weekend’s here to prove, once again, that time flies when you’re having fun.

Friday, October 3: Lights Down Low feat. Shadow Child at Monarch
The UK’s Simon Neele, better known as Shadow Child brings pumped-up house as a producer, DJ and weekly Rinse FM radio host. Poppy vocals and unabashed club weapons are his charming sound of choice.

Sat, October 4: Hostile Ambient Cinema w/ Jonas Reinhardt’s Ganymede (Live) at Bay Area 51
Brooklyn-based artist Jonas Reinhardt, a sound abstractionist, unites audio and visual atmospheres in his most recent project, Ganymede. Coupling six analog filmmakers with his album’s six tracks, this showcase wafts somewhere between fascination, cerebral and dance floor.

Saturday, October 4: ICEE HOT with D’Marc Cantu, Hashman Deejay, Braiden at Public Works
Michigan producer D’Marc Cantu makes machine workouts. Exuding energy from acid pitch bends and full-bodied, house percussion, his crude jams for Crème Organization and M>O>S mutate from sticky paranoia to soft washed space outs.

Saturday, October 4: Push The Feeling w/ Awesome Tapes From Africa at Underground SF
While in Ghana on a Fulbright Scholarship, Brian Shimkovitz began collecting artifacts from African music economies. They were cassettes; rock, pop, disco, bongo and vintage Moroccan divas, whose grooves he surfaces on a popular blog and zany, all-tape DJ sets around the globe.

Saturday, October 4: Play w/ Patrice Baumel, Nuno Dos Santos, Naveen G at The EndUp
Both long running residents to the regarded (and soon closing) Trouw Amsterdam, Patrice Baumel and Nuno Dos Santos approach techno in a vaporous fashion. They can certainly bring tech house hitters, though it’s their shivering and melodious moods that add an introspective layer of deepness.
