De La Soul Offers Every Album for Free

De La Soul is celebrating its 25th anniversary by offering all of its albums for free.

Every album from the De La Soul catalog will be available for free download until 9am tomorrow on the group’s website, including groundbreaking releases Three Feet High and Rising and De La Soul is Dead.

“It’s about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it,” De La Soul member Posdnuos told Rolling Stone. “It’s been too long where our fans haven’t had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them.”

De La Soul emerged from Long Island, N.Y., and helped shape a new bohemian and intellectual style of hip-hop with other acts on the same wavelength, including producer Prince Paul, A Tribe Called Quest and the Jungle Brothers, collectively known as the Native Tongues. Unfortunately, due to legal issues with unapproved samples—a widespread practice in the early days of hip hop—De La Soul has had difficulties getting its music online, including iTunes.

The trio continues to tour and release new music consistently.
