On Saturday, September 6th, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sonoma Mountain Zen Center (SMZC), 6367 Sonoma Mountain Road, Santa Rosa, will host its fifth Annual Bazaar on the Mountain. Come experience the spirit of an authentic Zen community in its rural home under tranquil redwoods and oaks, overlooking northern California’s beautiful Valley of the Moon. As always, admission and parking are free.
The bazaar has several new exciting features this year: a silent auction with a wide variety of items and services (e.g., a San Miguel house for a week), hourly door prizes and a very special bonus drawing for anyone who purchased five raffle tickets or more. Among the highlights are a framed original calligraphy by Zen Master Hoitsu Suzuki Roshi, two weeks of lodging in a Switzerland guesthouse worth $1,400, a one-week sojourn in a beachfront inn in Vietnam, winery tours, handcrafted jewelry, hot springs and temple stays and much more.
Once again, we’ll present a diverse group of artisans and craftspeople, offering a superb selection of treasures to take home -- paintings, sculptures, fiber and bamboo art, photography, ceramics, calligraphy, handmade jewelry, honey, ethnic artifacts, and more. Among others, lively demonstrations by musicians and performers will include formal tea ceremonies, Taiko drumming, Aikido martial art - “Way of the Bow” archery, Shakuhachi flute, and Koto. Children can join the storytelling circles, get their faces painted, and feast on snow cones!
