Cassava Bakery & Café Nears Kickstarter Goal

We have examined the move by many restaurateurs to use Kickstarter to fund new ventures, whether it be the opening of a new restaurant, or expansion of an existing spot. The latest is Cassava Bakery & Café in the Outer Richmond.

Husband and wife owners Kris Toliao and Yuka Ioroi have recently expanded their small space, adding some much needed indoor seating, tripling the number of available seats in the dining room. With the added space, Toliao, who mans the kitchen, has also expanded the menu during the day and they continue to offer dinners Friday-Sunday, usually with a special theme each month.

The couple hopes to eventually offer dinner throughout the week and are also working on a small bar space, where they will offer a focused wine list, artisan beer menu and wine and vermouth-based cocktails in the coming months.

But the Kickstarter project is helping to raise money for a heated patio, which will feature additional seating. They also hope to feature a living wall of edible herbs , which will be used at the restaurant.

The Kickstarter project has a goal of raising $20,000 and concludes on Friday, August 2 at 6:00pm. Click here for more information.
