Bay Area Pastry Chefs Dominate Food & Wine List

Food & Wine magazine has fully launched into it’s “People’s Best” lists, this week taking a look at the Best New Pastry Chefs across the country.

The West Region has a definite Bay Area feel, with six of the 16 nominees residing at Bay Area restaurants.

Among the esteemed pastry chefs – Francis Ang of Fifth Floor, Laura Cronin with Perbacco, Robin Kloess from Incanto and Matthew Tinder with Coi and Plum in Oakland. Jessica Entzel at Morimoto Napa and Stephanie Prida of Manresa in Los Gatos also made the list.

This is just the latest indication of the growing pastry industry in San Francisco and the Bay Area. From pastry shops like Craftsman & Wolves, Tout Sweet Patisserie and b.patisserie (plus the soon-to-open 20th Century Café from Michelle Polzine) to the growing number of chocolate factories and limitless amount of talented pastry chefs in restaurants or working for restaurant groups, diners with a sweet tooth are able to get their fill.

Voting for Best New Pastry Chef, West Region concludes on April 8th. The Bay Area is looking to continue its success as SPQR’s Mathew Accarrino was named California’s Best New Chef for this year by readers of Food & Wine magazine.
