Food Classes, Special Dinners and New Menus in SF

Bollito Misto, a cider-pairing dinner and a night of Australian wines – all part of the fun new offerings at restaurants around the Bay Area.

Poggio’s Bollito Misto Event – Poggio Trattoria in Sausalito has started its annual Bollito Misto event.  Running Monday – Wednesday through the end of March, the meal is inspired by one of Chef Peter McNee’s first trips to the Alba truffle festival.  For Bollito, the restaurant will be serving up to six different slowly simmered meats, including house-made cotecchino sausage, beef brisket, oxtail and tongue.  The meat is sliced and served tableside with five sauces and is $19 per person.  Poggio is located at 777 Bridgeway.

Hard Cider Dinner at Boxing Room – Part of the inaugural Boxing Room Beer Tuesdays, the restaurant is hosting Crispin Cider on January 22 for a four-course dinner with pairings, priced at $55 per person. The menu will be served all night in addition to the regular dinner menu. Boxing Room will be offering beer pairing dinners on the third Tuesday of every month. The restaurant is located at 399 Grove Street.

Flour + Water Culinary Classes – The team behind flour + water is holding a series of hands-on culinary classes meant to have participants gain a deeper understanding of food through interactive education.  The first takes place on Wednesday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m.  It will be the final class of a three-part series focused on pasta making.  The class takes place at flour + water’s Dough Room and is $200 per person.  Salumeria is also hosting three butchery courses on January 29, February 5 and February 12, all at 6:30 p.m.  Each class will have a different focus, from butchery of a pig to sausage making and finally, curing meats.  The three hour classes range in price from $225-300.  flour + water is located at 2401 Harrison Street and Salumeria is located at 3000 20th Street.

Aussie Wines at Brasserie S&P – The Mandarin Oriental is celebrating Australia Day with a tasting of Australian wines and bites at Brasserie S&P on Friday, January 25. The event, from 6-8 p.m., will feature wineries such as Vasse Felix, Heggies, Jansz and Penfolds along with many more. Cost is $28 per person. Brasserie S&P is located inside the Mandarin Oriental at 222 Sansome Street.

Additions at Mission Rock Resort – The new year has brought several new offerings to Mission Rock Resort.  The restaurant has unveiled new Happy Hour specials.  Monday-Friday from 3-7 p.m., Mission Rock Resort is offering 99 cent oysters, $4 drafts, $5 glasses of wine and $6 Happy Hour cocktails.  The bar and grill has also introduced a new three-course Dungeness Crab Menu.  Guests have their choice of Clam Chowder or Little Baby Gem Salad, Dungeness Crab Cioppino or a Half-Cracked Crab and a Vanilla Bean Bread Pudding for dessert.  Mission Rock Resort is located at 817 Terry Francois Boulevard.
