New Proposal Could Expand Outside Lands

A proposed contract extension that would keep the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park through 2021 would also allow for more people to attend the event in future years.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, the issue will be taken up soon by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission. Extending the permit for an additional eight years would allow up to 10,000 more daily attendees at the festival.

The city would also reap benefits as the Examiner reports the department would receive more money from the festival – it currently receives $1 per ticket plus either a base rent or 10 percent of gross revenue from ticket sales. The new proposal would increase the money to $1.25 per ticket and either the base rent or 11 percent of gross ticket sales, whichever is greater.

Another Planet Entertainment, the event’s sponsor, would also cover additional expenses.

According to city officials, the Recreation and Park Department received more than $1.7 million from Outside Lands in 2012.
