Ricardo Villalobos made a name for himself in the early 2000s with his early LPs, Alcachofa, followed by The Au Harem D’Archimede, which held an equal allure that drew electronic music fans to the spacey side of techno. Since then, he’s been one of the most popular globetrotting DJs dropping the sort of dance tracks that get ravers in a frenzy in clubs and at festivals like Bloc, Awakening, and Movement.

NPR just picked up the minimal innovator’s upcoming album, Dependent and Happy, for streaming prior to its release next week on Tuesday, September 25. This album is just as much a journey as his earlier albums, taking a bit of his tendency for errant synth chords, Latin-inspired percussion, and bubbly atmospheric effects.
