Phono Del Sol Festival Brings Bands, Beer and Bowling to the Mission

The 2nd annual Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival arrives Saturday, July 21, at Potrero del Sol Park with the mighty trifecta of SF summertime fun: music, food and beer.

For those who have not yet set foot in Potrero del Sol Park, it not only is home to the mission’s best skate park, but it also has an amphitheater built in to the side of its gently sloping hillside. While it might be little more quaint and colorful than the Greek Theatre, the acoustics are amazing.

Not only will faces be rocked off with the fuzzed-out garage of local headliners The Fresh & Onlys and Portland’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra, but you can also get your flute-fix on with Southern Cali’s own Gardens & Villa, alongside SF pop-sters Dominant Legs, the dream-gaze mastery of La Sera (Katy Goodman’s solo project of Vivian Girls) and my personal favorites Sea of Bees and Mwahaha.

Six food trucks will be present throughout the day providing delicious treats to help attendees maintain: Doc’s of the Bay, Kung Fu Tacos, Kasa Indian, TomKat, An the Go, & Voodoo Van. A beer and wine garden will also be on site.

New for this year, the Mission Bowling Club will provide mobile bowling lanes. Celebrity DJs include Andy Cabic of Vetiver, Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave and Release the Sunbird, and Kevin Meenan of Epicsauce and Push the Feeling.

Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival takes place this Saturday, July 21 at Potrero del Sol park – 25th and Utah. Doors are at 11:30 and the event runs from 12-6pm. Tickets are $7-10 and are available for purchase here. A portion of each ticket sold will support Women’s Audio Mission, GirlVentures, and the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department.  This is an all ages event and kids under 6 are free.
