Pizza and Pitchers

American Grilled Cheese Kitchen (1 South Park) is teaming up with the Del Popolo Pizza Truck and a number of local breweries for an exciting event aptly-named, “Pizza and Pitchers.”

On Thursday, July 19th, from 5-9PM, make your way to the inviting greenery of South Park for an evening of freshly baked bread, melted cheese and tomato sauce. Wether it’s in pizza or sandwich form, this particular combination of ingredients is always a winner. AGC Kitchen has been attracting throngs of frenzied diners to this part of the city for several years now and are even gaining national notoriety having recently been named one of the top 10 sandwich shops in the country by USA Today.

More recently, Del Popolo has been grabbing their own headlines after repurposing a twenty-foot transatlantic shipping container into a mobile kitchen, complete with an 800 degree wood-fired oven to pump out pies of incomparable Neapolitan bliss.

Bring these two chompable champions together, add a little beer and you’ve got yourself a serious party. Speaking of suds, Pacific Brewing Lab will be on-hand to pour their full-flavored microbrews. Nautilus is a delightfully-drinkable saison with well-balanced taste and a pleasantly floral aroma courtesy of the hibiscus flowers added during brewing. Their second offering, Squid Ink, is as unctuous as it sounds–a dark IPA delivering a robust, roasted flavor that belies its unexpectedly light mouthfeel.

Also, make sure to get your hands on some Linden Street beer, which will also be featured at the event. This relative newcomer helped revitalize the Oakland craft brew scene with their flagship speciality, Urban People’s Common Lager–a golden variation of the venerable steam beer made famous over a century ago by the folks at Anchor.

It’s events such as these, with an awesome assortment of local vendors, that help to reinforce our reputation as one of the world’s premiere culinary destinations.
