Contemporary Mexican Culture Night at SFMOMA
Multimedia art duo Los Jaichackers host a night focusing on the art, history and cultural traditions of Mexico at SFMOMA Thursday, May 31, from 6 pm to 9:45 pm.
The San Francisco and Los Angeles based collaborators will present, in four succinct acts, Double Grooves and Dirty Menudo, with performances from CHUCHU SANTAMARÍA, Moises Medina, and Los Master Plus.
Against the backdrop of SFMOMA’s exhibition Photography in Mexico, there will be a brief lecture from historian Medina exploring the aesthetic and cultural ramifications of the Botas Picudas (Pointy Boots) phenomenon in Mexico, the premiere of Los Jaichackers video and audio project A Fuego Lento II (Slow Burn II), a performance of cover songs from musical group CHUCHU SANTAMARÍA and the cumbiatrónica sounds of Guadalajara band Los Master Plus.
The event is part of the Now Playing series from SFMOMA and is free with museum admission. Tickets good for only the Thursday, May 31 evening event will be available at the museum box office starting at 6 pm the day of.
