Meals With Mom

Did you know that Mother’s Day is this Sunday and that it’s the most popular day of the year for dining out? Of course you knew that, which is why you made reservations weeks ago to make this holiday extra special for that lovely lady who bore you. But if by some strange set of circumstances you failed to already finalize your plans, there are so many incredible options throughout the city that are willing and able to accomodate you this weekend. Throughout the course of this week I will be sharing a few gems in particular, so why not start with the cream of the crop?

Gary Danko (800 North Point) is probably my favorite restaurant in the city, as I’ve told you before. In fact, it’s a serious contender in my book for finest dining destination on the planet. And I’m going to cut it to you straight: if you haven’t made reservations yet, there’s no PRAYER you’re getting a table at this point. However, it is a well-known fact that the swanky bar at Danko is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Who would want to eat with their mom at a bar on Mother’s Day, you ask? Well someone with a serious drinking problem, for one–and who here isn’t guilty of driving their parents to the liquor cabinet every once in a while during childhood? On a serious note, though, this is not your average bar: it’s visually stunning, with wrought metal surfacing, floral arrangements and, most importantly, the very same degree of deliciousness and service featured in the dining area.

The ladies will receive a complimentary long-stemmed rose and a chocolate memento to mark the occasion. Seatings will start at 3PM and continue until 10PM and the regular prix fixe menu options will be available, including three sensational courses for $71. When you consider that you can mix and match as you please and enjoy, say, the succulent Guinea Hen Breast for one course, the Seared Filet of Beef with bacon-potato risotto for another, and then end off with their sinfully decadent Baked Chocolate Soufflé, you begin to realize that Mom isn’t going to care about where in the restaurant she’s sitting; this is bound to be a meal to remember!

Check back in later this week for more last-minute Mother’s Day meals…
