Earn $5K While Videotaping Food in Asia

Want to travel Asia for free, while sampling the local cuisines, and get paid $5,000 for doing that? Pei Wei, an Arizona based Asian chain restaurant, has organized a contest to search for a videographer for their 2012 culinary tour season.

I love watching those travel food shows like No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, and Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. So I never imagined that a company would offer such a unique opportunity to the public. Applicants do need to have experience operating video camera equipment.

The contest winner will work for 10 days in June 2012, videotaping the adventures of Pei Wei’s culinary team visiting restaurants and sampling ethnic foods across Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. These videos will be edited and posted on YouTube.

The culinary team is composed of chef Mark Miller – he has over 30 years of experience, a Chez Panisse alum, and James Beard award winner for Best Chef in the Southwest, and chef Phil Butler – a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, he has worked as executive chef for both independent and chain restaurants, and spent a number of years designing gourmet Airline meals.

Applicants have until April 29 to submit a video application (1 to 3 minutes long). Interviews for the top 10 candidates will be conducted during May. And the job winner flies to Asia on June 12. Check the InspirAsia website for more details. See a sample video of the 2011 culinary tour below. And good luck!
