Event: Cal Day

While not everyone can attend UC Berkeley, this weekend you’ll be able to at least pretend you’re a student at Cal Day, the university’s annual open house. With more than 370 events, you’ll be sporting blue and gold in no time.

This year’s theme is “Expand Your Universe,” and features speakers like Nobel Prize in Physics winner Saul Perlmutter, author Mary Roach and former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich. In addition, you’ll have access to “museums normally closed to the general public, such as the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and the Essig Museum of Entomology, where plenty of bug, bone and other biological specimens can be viewed up close.”

You can also take part in sessions like “Cool Careers in Space Science”, “Write Your Honors Thesis in Anthropology”, and “Five Fabulous Insights From the Botanical Side”. It’s a nerdfest!

Head’s up – they’re expecting a whopping 40,000 attendees so expect crowds. And using public transportation is recommended as parking is going to be a nightmare.
