OTG Fort Mason Center Opening Day and More
The 2012 season for Off The Grid Fort Mason Center opens tonight Friday, March 23, 2012. Plan to arrive early, since large crowds are expected at this popular street food event from 5 to 10 pm.
OTG Fort Mason is the grandfather event that opened the doors to all current Bay Area food truck gatherings two years ago. While other OTG events run year round on public property, thru contracts with the city, the agreement with the non profit that manages this private property, is to operate on a seasonal basis, March to November.
This year FMC allowed a 20 percent increase of the space allocated to this OTG event, so now a total of 35 food stands or food trucks can park inside. Organizers promise that the first night will be a big party, with live music from Clangin & Bangin and the Ferocious Few.
Expect to see many regular food trucks like The Chairman, Curry Up Now, CupKates, Hapa SF, Kung Fu Tacos, Little Green Cyclo, Senor Sisig, Seoul on Wheels, The Taco Guys and chef Ryan Scott’s 3 Sum Eats. And street food veterans Creme Brulee Cart, El Porteno Empanadas, Happy Dumplings, Onigilly, Namu, Azalina’s Malaysian, Chaac Mool, and Peter’s Kettle Corn. Plus alcoholic drinks from Alembic Bar and Magnolia Pub.
Last year additions Koja Kitchen and Alicia’s Tamales, will be joined by first time OTG street vendors: AK Double Up with Trinidad’s doubles with habanero pepper sauce, Tom Pizzica’s BCT Belly Burgers, Bombzies Asian BBQ from Alameda, sandwiches and popsicles from Fat Face, Kirimachi Ramen, and Wing Wings – a new food stand venture from the popular Haight street chicken wings shop.
And to add some more food variety while allowing other street vendors inside, 14 merchants will take turns each week. This week, the first batch of 7 includes: An the Go, Brass Knuckle, Fogcutter, Don Bugito, Kasa Indian, Sanguchon, and newcomer Lima- Peruvian. And next Friday, those 7 will be replaced by the following group: Cholita Linda, Gohan, Delicioso Creperie, Fogcutter, Eat on Monday, Phat Thai, and Wow Silog. The more the merrier.
In other food truck related news, additional OTG locations are coming up this year. Starting April 6, OTG food trucks will park at Vallejo and Front streets on Fridays, for lunch service from 11 am to 2 pm. And SF Giants fans will get a dose of street food on Sunday home games, with the seasonal OTG Berry Street, scheduled every other Sunday starting April 15 until September 23.
