Books and Booze Club at Two Sisters Bar

Remember those high school reading groups where everyone would read the same book then feign a pseudo-intellectual discussion of said book in a fifty-minute class? Two Sisters Bar and Books is taking that concept and putting a grown-up spin on it–by adding cocktails, naturally.

The new Hayes Valley bar has launched their monthly Books and Booze Club. Each month, they announce a new book on their blog and the last Wednesday of the month, bookworms around the city come together for a light discussion accompanied by a cocktail inspired by the literary work. It’s a great opportunity to read a book, meet cool people, and for former English majors like myself, a chance relive the days of highlighting key passages and pondering syntax.

The current selection is 97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement by Jane Ziegelman. As the name suggests, the book explores the culinary histories of immigrant families living on the Lower East Side at the turn of the 20th century. There’s still time to pick up the book and read it in time for the March 28  book club.

The Booze and Book Club is held the final Wednesday of every month from 6 to 8pm at Two Sisters Bar and Books.
