Theater Premiers: Fireworks’ Best of 20 Years, The Pirates of Penzance & More

This week’s best theater premiers include the debut work of an SF playwright, a 20th anniversary gala performance, and a Leap Year singalong.

SF playwright, Susan Sobeloff‘s debut play, Merchants, will premier this Thursday at the Exit Theatre. Local indie theater troupe, No Nude Men Productions, will perform the play, which tells the story of two young sisters, a performance artist and finance consultant, who try to find happiness (by way of financial stability and career satisfaction) in the economically unstable, modern world. The show runs through Saturday, March 24.

This Sunday, Firebird Dance Theater celebrates 20 years with The Best of 20 at the Palace of Fine Arts. The one-night-only show will include a broad range of styles and favorite performances spanning their entire 20 year history in SF.

In celebration of another Leap Year, Lamplighters Musical Theater presents The Pirate of Penzance Singalong, this Sunday at USF’s Presentation Theater. While audience participation is, of course, much appreciated at this quadrennial tradition, even if you don’t know the lyrics, you’re still in for a good time.
