Theater Premiers: The Screwtape Letters, SF Ballet Opening Night Gala & More

This week’s hottest performances include the SF Ballet’s 2012 Opening Gala, Trannyshack Star Search, The Screwtape Letters and Oliva’s Kitchen

This Thursday the SF Ballet ENCORE! opens their new season with their 2012 Opening Night Gala. The evening’s theme “Bella Notte” begins in City Hall with drinks and bites, and then moves to the performance hall at the War Memorial Opera House. Following the performance, the party continues back at City Hall with live music, dancing and more libations.

On Friday, switch gears from classy ballet to the bam-boom-bang Trannyshack Star Search at DNA Lounge. In the 13th year, the epic drag competition will be hosted by Heklina and Peaches Christ, and judged by prominent figures including Lil’ Miss Hot Mess and Sasha Soprano.

C.S. Lewis‘ The Screwtape Letters, premiers this Saturday at Herbst Theatre. The provocative and humorous adaptation of the classic novel is passing through on a national tour with only three performances in SF — don’t miss it.
