Theater Premiers: The Sister Opens at SOMArts & More

This week’s top theater events include three bold new shows at SOMArts, Brava Theater and CounterPULSE.

This Wednesday SOMArts presents The Sister, a new play by local playwright/director, Joel Heinrich, and local concert pianist/composer, Hunter Noack. The unique work is as a drama as it is a gallery installation — spanning four rooms, and inviting the audience to physically follow the piece from room to room as they watch.

The Native American play, New Fire, also makes it’s debut this Wednesday at the Brava Theater. Written and directed by Cherrie Moraga, the play is a vivid 21st century historical and mythological journey that  counters the apocalyptic  predictions of 2012.

On Friday, Rosemary Hannon and Miriam Wolodarski‘s new collaborative dance, The Crane and the Crocodile, takes the stage at CounterPULSE. In this new performance, two women explore comedy, exploration and general absurdity through dance.
