Keep it Local: Five Bay Area Acts and their Upcoming Shows

Looking to rock out in the New Year? Show your support for these five awesome acts from around the bay:

1. Doe Eye

Singer/songwriter Maryam Qudus, aka Doe Eye, is grabbing our attention with her gorgeously crafted indie-rock performances. Her hit single “I Hate You” is vulnerable yet assertive and has us yearning for more. Hailing from Union City, she released her debut EP earlier this year and is set to release her first full-length album in 2012.

Upcoming show: Saturday, January 7 at Ear Peace Records in Berkeley. Tickets $5 at the door.

2. Miguel Migs

Local soul house DJ Miguel Migs returns with a new album, Outside The Skyline, full of smooth beats and distant vocals. His tracks take you on a groovy journey through soul, jazz and reggae tempos and female vocalists like Lisa Shaw and disco legend, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King spice up the album even more. “The Distance” ft. Aya is his newest gem, check it out below.

Upcoming Show: Saturday, January 14 at Mighty in San Francisco, with Julius Papp and Joe Claussell. Buy tickets here.

3. Vetiver

This SF-based folk band, led by talented lead singer Andy Cabic, impressed us with their recent hit single “Can’t You Tell” – a soothing, folky jam off their fifth full-length album, The Errant Charm. They’ve got an early 70’s, southwestern, breezy vibe to them, which is just the thing to make you crack a smile in the dead of winter.

Upcoming Show: Sunday, January 15 at The Independent in San Francisco. Grab your tickets here.

4. The Limousines

Indie-electro duo The Limousines give us dancy, blast from the past, synth-pop. It’s the kind of sound that will make you pick up your feet and bop your head like you’re a teenager again. Singer/songwriter Eric Victorino and multi-instrumentalist Giovanni Giusti got together in San Francisco in 2007, and they’ve been turning heads since. They released their first full-length album, Get Sharp, featuring the single “Internet Killed the Video Star.”

Upcoming Show: Thursday, January 19 at The Independent in San Francisco. Snag a ticket here.

5. AB & The Sea

With their carefree, rocker vibe and Vampire Weekend meets Beach Boys sound, Wisconsin transplants AB & The Sea have certainly made themselves welcome in the bay area. They wowed us with their joyous single “In The Sunshine” and have played with numerous acts, including Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Tokyo Police Club, and Freelance Whales. They are working on their debut album at SF’s Different Fur studios, slated for a Spring 2012 release.

Upcoming show: Saturday, February 18 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, with Pomplamoose. Buy tickets here.
