With sadness, we heard news that Cesaria Evora, the “barefoot diva”, had passed away over the weekend. She lived a remarkably open, accessible life to her fans, friends and the media despite being in ill-health since a heart attack in 2010. She will be remembered for her rich, deeply emotive voice that exposed many here in the US to the Morna genre of music.
