With good weather and a decent swell, it looks like the Rip Curl Pro Search surf contest at Ocean Beach, San Francisco’s first major pro surf contest, will begin early Tuesday morning.

Organizers will decide at 7:30am Tuesday morning if the contest at the north end of Ocean Beach will start as scheduled at 8am or later in the day. Surfline, the official forecaster for the surf contest is predicting 5-7 foot waves in poor-to-fair condition with, the occasional 8-footer. Wednesday’s forecast for Ocean Beach is the same, with fair conditions expected.

Twelve 30-minute heats are scheduled for the first round, with defending world champion Kelly Slater surfs in heat six. If Slater wins his first two heats he will secure his 11th ASP world championship.
