This Friday Public Works presents RebelRave, featuring DJs and producers of the revitalized deep house movement Damian Lazarus, Art Department and Droog. These three acts go beyond their DJ sets and productions with the hard work they put into their own labels and throwing next-level house parties that call for a new sounds in dance music.

Damian Lazarus

Damian Lazarus hails from London but moved to LA in 2009. Before relocating, he started his Crosstown Rebels imprint in 2003 in an effort to push forward the kinds of music styles that inspire him. Recent artists on this label include Jamie Jones, Deniz Kurtel, Art Department, Soul Clap and Matt Tolfrey. Since 2008, Lazarus has also more actively shared his tastes through his montly podcast called Lazpod.

Art Department

Art Department are the Canadian duo of Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White. Jonny White is responsible for the No.19 label, featuring the likes of No Regular Play, Jimmy Edgar and Tanner Ross. Art Department have been a much talked about duo in the last year, and their track “Without You” was selected by Resident Advisor as the number one dance track of the year for 2010, which came out on Crosstown Rebels. Although they’ve been friends for a long time, Glasgow and White didn’t start Art Department until 2009. Their successful start gives them a lot to live up to, but they will likely have no problem delivering.

Droog, the threesome of Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Slow, are known as key figures in the LA house music scene. One of their accomplishments is the inception of their Culprit label, featuring the likes of Lee Foss, Shonky and Adultnapper. The label was started in 2009, although the idea had been stewing a couple years prior, since the three began their residency at the large and esteemed club, Avalon Hollywood. Droog also like to throw their own smaller and more exclusive parties, known as Culprit Sessions, at their rooftop location at the Standard Downtown Hotel.
