Celebrating Jimi Hendrix Day in San Francisco

Coinciding with the worldwide release of “Jimi Hendrix Experience Winterland,” a four-CD box set documenting the band’s performances at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, the City and County of San Francisco have proclaimed September 13 as Jimi Hendrix – Winterland Day.

The collection showcases six concerts that the Jimi Hendrix Experience performed over three nights at the Winterland Ballroom in October of 1968.

In proclaiming it Jimi Hendrix – Winterland Day, San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener called the concerts “significant events in the rich cultural history of San Francisco.”

The day will be capped off with a celebration on Tuesday night at Amoeba Music in San Francisco. Jimi’s sister Janie Hendrix will be on hand along with Bootsy Collins to greet fans. Rare Jimi Hendrix video clips will also be shown in the store over the course of the evening. Here’s a little Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock to get you in the mood.
